Hello,

Does the expression "long face" mean 'to have a sullen expression' or 'to be disappointed' or both?

Thank you,

Nawee

Dear Nawee, Yes, feeling sullen or disappointed results in long faces. Sadness, in general, produces long faces. As I think about it now, when we smile, our faces broaden around our mouths, which seems to result in a shortening of the face. But, of course, we don't use 'short face' to indicate happiness. OK? Very Happy

Nawee,
If you or I have a long face others can understand just by looking at us that we are unhappy. Please, I dont want to see you with a long face!
