Dear teachers,
"Looking at the *tape*, you're going to see stocks just *wallow around* because of lack of interest," said John, co-head of equities for....
What is the tape here and what does wallow around mean?
Thanks! |

"Tape" is probably "ticker tape." That's the stream of stock prices that you see across the bottom of the screen of a financial news TV station when the stock market is open.
"To wallow around" is moving (usually slowly) seemingly without direction. For a stock, you see it (the stock on the tape) at 10 AM and its''s at $34.12. At 11 it's at $34.46. Each successive hour it's at $34.01, $34.19, 33.59, $33.97, and closes at $34.07. It (the price) was wallowing around all day. |

See here for a brief history and info on ticker tape and why it still looks the way it does. |

Thanks,bud and Bod S.
so, at the early time when the technology was not so advanced, the stock quotes were received by the stock ticker machine and printed on a thin paper strip, known as ticker tape , really a tape, very interesting! |
