What an English calls this process: write names/numbers in pieces of paper, fold the papers, pick one and that one is a selection.

It's a lottery. The people draw lots to see who they are paired with, or to see whose number wins, or to find out the name of the winner of the prize or prizes (sometimes called door prizes). It's a random draw and a blind draw, since all the lots are the same to the touch, they are all mixed up, and the person drawing the lots can't really tell what's on the lot until it is drawn and read.
