Q1:Can we say this way?
-->The lion was busy the next year.
Q2:or this way.
-->The lion was busy next year.(What's the difference?)

Q1 sentence is correct and means the same as the first sentence. "The next year" means the following year. Because "the next year" means the following year, it can refer to the past or the future.
Q2 sentence is not correct. "next year" only refers to the future, so you cannot say "....was busy next year."
Next year the lion will be busy. The lion will be busy next year. Next year (is)(will be) 2007. |
