Hi, everyone!
Do you fancy doughnuts?
The other day the first "Krispy Kreme" outlet opend in my country, and I went there. However, I had to give up eating because there were too many people standing in the line.
I'd like to ask you what "Krispy Kreme" means. It sounds like "crispy cream", but I think it would be impossible for cream to be crispy.
Thank you.

.
The Krispy Kreme homepage sadly does not indicate the origin of the name. It obviously means 'crispy creme' in a cutesy 1940s-style alliterative fashion-- but I think the following steps in their making (from the HowStuffWorks website) suggests the origin of the name:
Frying cooks the dough rapidly from the outside in to give the doughnuts their distinctive crispy texture....
...Then it gets to the filling station, where bakers inject cream, custard or one of the various fruit fillings.

Hi, Mister Micawber
Thanks for your reply.
I'll email the company to ask the origin of the name.

I think it was just a 'cutesy' name, maybe related to the original product, many years ago!
The current doughnuts they sell are only 'crispy' when stale!!
They do sell 'creme' filled doughnuts but they are not intended to be crispy! |
