RACHEL: Isn't this amazing? I mean, I have never made coffee before in my entire life.
CHANDLER: That is amazing.
JOEY: Congratulations. And while you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a Western omelette or something...
What is the meaning of "while you're on a roll" here?
Thanks! |

You're "on a roll" when you have several successes in a row, usually in a short period of time. If it's a lot of successes, there may be an occasional failure mixed in, such as a basketball player making 21 baskets in 26 attempts (a fantastic effort). Joey is mocking Rachel by associating "on a roll" with one success.
Suppose you have a day like this: It's 12 below zero and your old car starts up just fine, you're late starting for work but you get there 10 minutes early, your boss tells you that she's giving you a raise, a friend you haven't seen in months calls and invites you to lunch, you think of a great solution to a problem that has been vexing you, and you get home and your husband has made dinner and bought flowers for you. You're on a roll! |
