Dear Teachers,

1. A: How long will you be staying in America?
B: A year.
- Can I say "one year" instead of "a year"? and will that change the meaning of the sentence?

2. I wanted you to love me. It's been a rainy afternoon, and now I'm staring at the moon thinking we got too serious too soon.
- "we got too serious too soon" here means "it's too early for us to get serious about our relationship", right?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

1. They're pretty much the same. It's possible that a speaker may choose "one year" to mean exactly one year, and "a year" to mean approximately a year, but it most cases the speaker probably isn't being that precise.

2. Yes.
