What is the meaning of "plug" in the following?

"The truthiness hurts: Stephen Colbert's brilliant performance
unplugged the Bush myth machine
and left the clueless D.C. press corps gaping."
(The Washington Post, April 30, 2006)

In this context unplugged means: disconnected, turned off, stopped, uncovered, revealed, exposed, made visible, made public and clear.
