Hello,
Could you help me to understand this sentence? Thanks a lot.

"With Julia Roberts' Dec. 19 release "Mona Lisa Smile," the actress officially assumes the mantle of Older Generation Star -- as she is playing college professor to fresh young things Kirsten Dunst, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Julia Stiles. Roberts has admitted that it's not the most comfortable place to be."

Best regard.

It means that In the movie, Mona Lisa Smile, for the first time Julia Roberts is playing the part of an older woman to some young rising stars.
She admits that she is not really comfortable with it.
Assumes the mantle means, literally, (she) puts on the mantle ( a loose sleeveless cloak).
You can translate it as: (she) takes on the role of
An Older Generation Star means she is now old enough to be the mother of the other actresses mentioned.
