Where did we get to in the last class?
We got to here last time, right?
The above sentences are common expressions of classroom English.
But I was taught that the preposition 'to' cannot be used immediately before such words as here, there and home. Is the grammar rule incorrect? _________________ Thank you very much for your reply. |

No, the grammar rule is correct. You cannot say things like 'come to here', 'go to there' and 'get to home'.
I have two comments about the classroom sentences.
1...In your context, "here" is not really a place like 'here where I am' or 'home'.
2..."We got to here...." is not a very good sentence. For example, how are other people supposed to know how far you got if you are pointing in your book and saying "We got to here..."?
It is better to say, How far did we get in the last class? We just started question (number) 4. |

I think "We got to here" is short for "We got up to here," meaning this is how far we got. |
