Please tell me if the sentences are acceptable (a) or not acceptable ( na)
1. In one hour 1,000 people walk down this shopping street.
In one hour 1,000 people are walking (??) at this shopping street
In one hour 1,000 people pass (??) this shopping street.
2. Next main holiday (???) we have to visit this shopping street.
3. Last week I decided I have party.

Are both okay ( The speaker says it one week later and the party is

These are OK:
1. In one hour, 1,000 people walk down this shopping street.
In one hour, 1,000 people pass through/along this shopping street.
2. The next big/national holiday, we have to visit this shopping street.
3. Last week I decided to have a party.
Last week I decided I would have a party.
Others may have other opinions to offer. _________________ "I really do not know that anything has ever been more exciting than diagramming sentences." Gertrude Stein

Dear Klafterreith, Your 1a is fine. 1b, not so good. 1c is good, but putting 'along' after 'pass' makes it fine. 2, Americans don't use the term 'main holiday'. Nearly all holidays are part of 3-day weekends. So, they generally have the same status. And it's more correct to put 'During' before 'the next holiday' (without the 'main'). 3a is not good. 3b is fine, but putting 'decided to have a party' is the best option: shorter and direct. OK? |
