What does the folloing into mean? Of course I can guess but is it common or formal? What are the other alternatives of, on, about? I haven't seen that.
epidemiologist: a researcher into the spread of disease among the people

It's an awkward use of the word. It should be researcher of the spread of disease or researcher concerned with the spread of disease.
