(1)I do not mean that it is worthwhile to put down every detail, but keep
them so that you may know how the money goes and how much
things cost you.
Someone said that the sentence above had "not A but B" structure.
But I do not think it has.
Does the sentence has "not A but B" structure? |

I agree with you. The quoted sentence doesn't have "not A but B" structure. The fact that there are two opposing clauses is not enough to justify the use of but; there must be a relationship between the two clauses.  _________________ Mary W. Ng
