Please, would you help me to correct the following sentece:
About three thousend residents were protesting against the 'illigitimate' building of a bypass road.
Could I replace illegitimate by: 1. unnecessary
or 2. unwarranted
Thanks! |

| Even though I am not sure what meaning you want to express, "illegitimate" doesn't sound like the right word to use here. Do you mean 'illegal'? |

Dear 2006,
No, it don't think it should mean illegal. I think it should express that there is no reason or need to build a new road. - And my question is whether or not I can use 'unwarranted' in this case.
I'm looking forward to getting your reply.
Thanks a lot in advance. |

Hi Crisi,
You can use any word which fits the intended meaning - illegal, unwarranted and unnecessary are all possible. "Illegitimate" is not likely an intended meaning.
