Hello,
How is "conversely" different from "however"? I'm never quite sure when and where to use it. Can it be used in the sentence below?
"The family is the smallest social entity. Conversely, it is the most important one."

"conversely" is quite different from "however" and cannot be used in your example. Use however or but.
converse, adj; something reversed in order, relation or action.
conversely is the adverb but both the adjective and adverb are infrequently used.
An example is the following sentence.
81 is the square of 9; conversely, 3 is the square root of 9. |
