Dear Teachers,

1. Why dont we do lunch one day next week?
- I think have lunch is better than do lunch, right?

2.A: I sure am a lot busier than I was at my old job.
B: Ill bet. Its been at least a few weeks since weve seen each other.
- What does Ill bet mean here?

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

Stevenukd

1. I'm not a teacher, but "do lunch" is as usual as "have lunch" and you can use both of them.

2. bet, wager, stake, punt are all synonymes. "I'll bet" is "I will bet" and means something like "I can assure you" Just look up the word "bet" in a dictionary. So, the sentence is: "I can assure you that we haven't seen each other for at least a few weeks."

1. I agree with ad-miral. Probably "do lunch" could be considered as slang. It's very popular today, but was unheard of 20 or so years ago.

2. Yes, ad-miral, but to be precise, the assurance is that the speaker has been very busy lately.
