Please help;

As with Kathryn's earlier appointment, she was able to be married in the church- just not under as favorable circumstances.

What does "as with" mean in this sentence?

Thanks so much.

"as with" means 'just like', 'the same as'.

Your sentence is a bit strange.

Thanks for the answer.

I of course didn't write the sentence. It is from some novel. Do you mean that it is incorrect in grammer or clumsy?

How would you edit?

Thanks.

Dear Tisogai, Perhaps I can help you further: 'as with' can also mean 'about', 'concerning' or 'regarding'. So, you can read it (with my further editing): "Regarding her aforementioned goal, she was able to be married in a church." This makes sense to me. OK? Smile

I have never seen "as with" used to mean about, concerning, regarding but maybe some people use it that way.

'As for' is used to mean about, concerning, regarding.

The sentence seems strange because I am not sure what it's trying to say.

Dear 2006 and Tisogai, My mistake: 'as for' is what I was thinking of when I said 'can mean 'about', 'concerning', 'regarding'. 'As with' is more awkward. Confused

Please compare it with the one below.

Code:
 [b]As[/b] such a thing happened [b]with[/b] Kathryn's earlier appointment, she was able to be married in the church- just not under as favorable circumstances.
