Hello,

"In the three centuries since Newton worked out his theory of gravitation, it has been modified and changed only once by Albert Einstein."

Which is incorrect?

a) in the three centuries
b) since Newton
c) it has been modified
d) and changed

And I don't understand what "in the three centuries since" means. Doesn't "since" from that time until now?

Thank you,

Nawee

"and changed" is redundant because it has the same meaning as "modified".

Thank you, Yinglish.

Just one more question. What does "in the three centuries since Newton worked out..." mean? Does it mean 'since Newton worked out... until now and it has been 3 centuries'?

Thank you.

Albert Einstein said the above statement during his lifetime (1879 - 1955). Sir Isaac Newton published his theory on gravitation in 1687. 1955 minus 1687 equals 268 which is within 300 years (three centries).

Yes, that is what it means but you have to treat "now" as in the 1950s, back in Einstein's lifetime.
