Hi Everybody,

could you please explain the following:

The goodwill of our customers is included in the asking price.

The advisor to the Stock Exchange said that the company was haemorrhaging red ink but had hidden the size of its liabilities.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

There was no escaping the bottom line; a net loss of 35,000.

A little bit of window dressing, our figures fir this year look a lot better.

Since weset up the business two years ago we've been on a steep learning curve.

Our total gearing is nearly a quarter of a million pounds.

goodwill: the good relationship between a business and its customers; the business' reputation

haemorrhaging red ink: losing a lot of money, like bleeding (red blood).

bookkeeper, accountant: same meaning

bottom line: net income (it can be positive or negative)

window dressing: creating a fake (untrue) appearance. (Don't do it if you're an accountant/CEO/business owner.)

steep learning curve: learning very fast but very difficult

gearing: borrowing money to make money.
Investopedia Says: In simpler terms the gearing explains how a company finances its capital, either through outside lenders or through shareholders.
Also known as "financial leverage".
