Hi, there.
Look at the following sentence.
#1. He has been to Canada when he was a child.
Is this sentence grammatically correct?
In my opinion, the present perfect tense cannot be used with a phrase expressing a definite time in the past.
So the sentence #1 should be:
#2. He went to Canada when he was a child.
#3. He had a chance to go to Canada when he was a child.
What do you think?
I'm waiting for your answers.
Thanks. |

Yes, I agree with you that the first sentence is wrong, and that the othe two sentences are correct English, although they could have different meanings. In sentence number 3, it is not clear if he had a chance to go and took it, or if he had a chance to go and turned it down.
In addition, "He has been to Canada." is also correct. |
