Hi, everyone.

I'd like to know what baseball players wear on their head are called "cap", or "hat".

I thought they are called "cap", but I happened to hear a woman call it "a hat".

Thank you.

I've always heard baseball "cap" and I'm from the home of the Boston Red Sox!

Hi, my profe

Thank you for your reply.

I googled the image of "hats" and found a lot of "caps".
It seems like the distinction between cap and hat is becoming blurred.

"Hat" is a generic term for headgear. "Cap" is a type of hat, with a bill.

If you see a man with a baseball cap on and another with a bowler, standing next to a woman with a straw hat on, all three are wearing hats, but of different types.

All caps are hats, but not all hats are caps.

Yoshi-Pooh, I've been active in baseball all of my life. And I always call it a cap. If you look at a baseball equipment/apparel catalog, you will see 'cap', not 'hat'. To me, a hat implies a brim that encircles the wearer's head. Our baseball cap only has a brim in the front. OK? -Eric
