Dear teachers,

Would you give me any advices about the meaning of "room block waves" in the below sentence?

"Guarantees from individual hotels concerning room availability, room rates, minimum stay/room block waves, other price controls and binding contract."

Please help me.
Thank you.
With regards.

At first, I thought it was a typo for "room block rates" but the original document suggests otherwise.

See definition of room block.

"Room block waves" means one room block follows after another room block, like ocean waves. Let's say the Olympic Games lasts 14 days. And you are responsible for making hotel reservations for 1000 athletes. 600 athletes will leave the hotels by the end of day seven. It would be wise to reserve (room block, first wave) 1000 rooms for seven days and then room block (second wave) 400 rooms for the remaining seven days. In other words, it makes no economic sense to room block 1000 rooms for 14 days.

Dear Yinglish,

Thank you for your answers.

You describe them by using an example, so I can clearly see that's imiages.
It is of great help for me.

Thanks a lot.
Sincerely.
