What's the meaning of "put things into perspective"? Could you explain it by making a sentence? Thanks

Hi Swim4life,

It means that you have a clearer view, understanding or outlook on life or a certain aspect of life - usually after something dramatic has happened to you.

Losing his arm in that terrible accident put things in perspective for him.

After her daughter almost died from pneumonia, she had a new perspective on her family.

Going to that monk retreat gave him a new outlook on life. It helped him put everything into perspective.

You can't just think about yourself, you've got to put things in perspective and think about your family!

In order for you to put things into perspective, you've got to slow down, take a deep breath, and pause what you're doing for a moment.
