After reading the article about Lee Wildes and his activities to help people with AIDS I answer the questions:
1. Would you use the word hero to describe Lee Wildes? Why or why not?
2. What do you think should be done with the leftover drugs?
Personally, I don't like using the word "hero" in this context because I can't help it but relating it with mythology or superpowers. But it is obvious that what Lee Wildes is doing is a great action, he is a trully humanitarian person, working selflessly to help others and putting himself at risk by doing it. I believe his actions should be made more public and recompensated, and the institutions would do good following his steps.
The medical industry is really depraved, as it is too often only moved by economical interests an has too little regard for the patients, specially the poor ones. I think it's terrible that the leftover drugs are thrown away when there are so many people dying because they can't afford them. In my opinion, as long as they are still in good conditions, this drugs should be sent to those people in need, and the governments should regulate it so that it would be safe for the sick people. |
