What should be filled in the blanks below? "Is" or "are"?

Sports magazines _____ a kind of reading I love, and romances _____ another one I like.

Dear Musicnote, I see the dilemma that your sentence poses, since the subjects are plural and the complements are singular. I would not use such sentences. I would simplifiy it by changing it to: 'I love reading sports magazines, also romances.'
