Hello! My first message here...I was wondering if I my sentence is correct here, especially my usage of the word "respectively". It's from an exercise I've prepared for my students, I thought I'd turn to you, since I'm not a native speaker. Thanks for your help
Work with your pair and pronounce the following words as they are pronounced in British respectively American English: |

Welcome, Unek!
First, I think you want "partner" rather than "pair." I take it that each student has a partner, and they are working in pairs.
Second, since you want the word "respectively," I suppose you mean you want one person to pronounce the word the British way, and the other person to pronounce it the American way. Therefore, I would reword it:
"Work with your partner and pronounce the following words. You and your partner should pronounced each word the British way and the American way respectively."
Or perhaps:
"With a partner, take turns pronouncing each of the following word both the British way and the American way. Each person should pronounce each word both ways."
Hope this helps. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
