Hello, teachers!!

The best time to visit Colorado is in winter.
----->
Why do you need "in" in the above sentence? Is "The best time to visit Colorado is winter" wrong? I cannot understand it.

Thank you in advance.

In my opinion you can say:

The best time to visit Colorado is winter/in winter/in the winter.
Winter is the best time/season to visit Colorado.
I like winter/the winter.
Winter/the winter is my favorite season.

But you need the preposition is sentences like:
I like to skate in winter.
The children are on holiday in summer.
It rains in the spring.
The leaves fall off the trees in autumn.

Dear myprofe:

Thank you for your quick replies. I really appreciated it.

The best time to visit Colorado is winter/in winter/in the winter.

The best time to visit Colorado is winter.
The best time to visit Colorado is in winter.
The best time to visit Colorado is in the winter.

You mean, all the three sentences are right?

I understood what you wrote except for "winter/in winter/in the winter."

Thank you again for your quick replies.
