What is the difference between in summer and in the summer as in
1) I went to Bali Island in summer.
2) I went to Bali Island in the summer.
Thanks! |

If you're talking in general you don't have to use the definite article:
In summer we go to the beach.
Otherwise it is necessary:
After I graduated I went to the beach in the summer. _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |

2) I went to Bali Island in the summer of 2006. (Article required)
