Linux is any time better than Vista. Ubuntu Linux is cool, but Mandriva Mettise Linux is even cooler. Although I actually don't use either of them, since they both using Gnome desktop, but I feel more comfortable with KDE. |

I got also beryl to work on my Arch Linux computer. All those effects were interesting, cool and.. It's also fast, but for working i did not find it very useful, it was a bit annoying.. maybe if get use all it,s possibilities, then it's useful... I switched it off after playing about a half of a day with it. |

For most users, Windows is much better.
Many programmers like Linux, but for everyone else it's like going back to the old time DOS shell. |

Why u think so, pugachevV? Are u tried some modern linux distribution? Or you're just redirect lies that u have heard from microsoft's brain washing campaigns. If compare Windows and Linux then Linux is easier to get work. Since linux have concole (Bash shell). If a user have problems to get some hardware work on windows then it's very difficult to get any help or understand what's wrong. you must search drivers from net like crazy... But In linux if some thing don't work out of the box and/or u are in trouble to get it working, u usually only need to post dmesg, lspci, lsusb and lsmod outputs to helpdesk, or linux community board when ask help. I'm sure u get help much quicker than in windows... In windows system is often only way to get it back normal, is reinstall all.
It's much easier in Linux. Instead to follow instructions like click there and then there, uncheck that opinion check that opinion.... U just need to copy paste some commands to shell prompt and run them. And all is done.. Often u don't need even restart. And if u don't like shell at all, then modern linux have also tools that have GUI to configure everything same easy graphically like in windows.
And the best part. Opposite to windows, u don't need to use one same Desktop environment like everyone else.. u have a wide range of choice of them. Like KDE, GNOME Fluxbox... U can choose the one, you like most.
here's also a comparison of most linux desktop environments.

I use KDE since the first Linux I used (Mandrake) had KDE and I Like it. I have later tried some others too but KDE seems most comfortable and functional to me. |
