Chinas fast-evolving financial industry, like the country itself, defies the type of easy, sound bite-friendly synopses that foreign investors might like.
What's the meaning of "sound bite-friendly"? Thanks. |

A sound bite is a short clip of something said by someone that can be played in a newscast (or an opinion show that calls itself news), hopefully something pithy and to the point.
Suppose there is a country whose economy is sagging, a country where everyone takes six weeks off for vacation every year. You see a short story on the news about this country, with a clip of some politician saying, "The problem with Slothland is, they're all on vacation. Nobody's minding the shop!"
That's a simple sound bite summing up the problem and implying the solution -- get to work, Slothland! It's just a small part of what the politician said, but enough to get across his entire message.
Well, China and its fast-evolving financial industry are too complicated to be reduced to some simple sound bite like that. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
