I've read this sentence in a book.
" A cat's claws are hooked in a direction that makes climbing up a tree an easy task."
I think this sentence is grammatically wrong. If "that" refers to the whole sentence " A.....direction", ", which" is right. If "that" refers to " A cat's claws", "that make" is right.

In other words, that sentence shoud be corrected as follows.

1) A cat's claws are hooked in a direction, which makes climbing up a tree an easy task.
2) A cat's claws are hooked in a direction that make climbing up a tree an easy task.

What's your opinion?

The original sentence is correct. ".......a direction that makes....." It is the "direction" that makes climbing up a tree an easy task, and "that" sounds much better than "which".
