1.The opposite woman was knitting a cardigan.
2.The woman opposite was knitting a cardigan. |
Someone said that #1 is incorrect while #2 is correct. Is that right?
Would you tell me why?
Thanks. |

In the first sentence opposite is used as an adjective and in the second one it's used as an adverb. _________________ I'm never going to learn if you don't correct my mistakes! |

Thanks for your reply.
I have a question which is if you mean that both are correct.
Could you tell me which is correct?
Thanks. |

Only no. 2 is correct. It means that the woman sitting opposite from / across from / facing me was knitting.
You might talk about an opposite opinion or an opposite position, but you wouldn't talk about an opposite woman, except maybe in a poem. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
