Hi, everyone!
1. I jog every day.
2. I'm jogging every day.
When you talk about your habit, jogging in ths case, which form do you normally use?
My grammar books say #1 is grammatically correct, but it seems to me #2 is also fine.
I'd appreciate your replies.
Thank you.

This is a very interesting question. It shows how inadequate our knowledge of verbs and their usage really is. In general, I'd go with number 1, as an indication of a repeated activity. What do you do to keep in shape? I jog every day.
However, we can also say, "What are you doing to keep in shape?" and the answer "I'm jogging every day." seems fine. I think it may be what is explained as the "extended present." I'm studying hard this semester. I'm really trying to get into shape, so I'm jogging every day.
Sorry, best I can do for an explanation. I'm still learning about verbs too. |
