| I understand he means he hates Wilde. But is it 'I cast Wilde into the abyss out of loathing' or 'I cast Wilde into the abyss beyond loathing'? Thanks in advance. |

Hello Outsider -
My guess would be your second sentence containing 'beyond'.
The use of 'loathing' already indicates an extreme emotion.
Adding 'of the abyss of' is a reference to bottomless pit (chaos) of the ancient cosmogonies (Greek) or the nether region refered to in the Old Testament.
Either way, the image of the depth of 'loathing' (for me) goes from 2D to 3D and whew!! Glad I'm not poor old Oscar!
