I'm moving there in Summer'08. I have to choose the residence or to rent an appartment but i don't know what is the best university and i'd like my home was next to the place where i'll study.

I don't know if you mean New York City or New York State, I also don't know what you want to study but I'll give it a shot.

In NYC the best university is probably Columbia University, it is IV League and very prestigious, the campus is located in Harlem (it is a safe area now so don't worry about that). There is also New York University.

In New York State there is Cornell University which is also IVY League and prestigious (its where I went to school ), and they LOVE international students.

I'm sorry that I personally don't have that much information, but I did find a website that can help you http://www.univsource.com/ny.htm. It has a list of every university and college in New York. If you want to see how good they are you can go here http://www.library.uiuc.edu/edx/rankings.htm, it is a ranking of every school in the US. On the left hand side you can choose which category you want to see.
