Hi, everyone!

A. I'm going out after I read the newspaper.
B. I'm going out after I have read the newspaper.

C. I'll call you when I finish my homework.
D. I'll call you when I have finished my homework.

Could anyone tell me which sentence in each pair sounds more natural?

The correct sentences are A and C. We don't used the perfect tense to talk about the future.

A. I'm going out after I read the newspaper.
C. I'll call you when I finish my homework.

The perfect tense sentences are not incorrect, but I would use the simple tense sentences. I think the simple tense sentences are more natural.

I expected to be challenged on this but, although it sounds like you could do it, using the present perfect to talk about the future contradicts everything I've learned about this verb tense. But I was wrong.

The present perfect is used in this case because the future perfect can not be used in a clause beginning with a time expression.

A. I'm going to finish my homework and then I'm going to call you.

B. When I call you I will have finished my homework.
C. I will have finished my homework when I call you.

D. I'll call you when I finish my homework.
E. I'll call you when I will have finished my homework. -incorrect-
F. I'll call you when I have finished my homework. -correct-
