Are both the following sentences (1) and (2) correct?
------- the following ------------
(1) The problem was that his friend could not do up his shoes.
(2) The problem was his friend could not do up his shoes. |

Number one is correct.
Is "do up his shoes" British English? In American English it's "tie his shoes" |
