We say "Happy birthday to you." to many children and adults.
Can we say "Happy birthday to you." to a new born baby, too? |

Not until it is one year old. One's birthday is the anniversary of one's birth, not the day of one's birth. Anyway, a newborn won't understand you no matter what you say. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Hi enaj64kr,
Some new fathers might say "Happy Birthday" to their babies at some time on the day they are born-- since it is their "birth" day. This is kind of a cute way to welcome the baby to the world. In China, you are one years old when you are born.
