Hello,

I'm just wondering if there is a standardised way of writing English alphabets? I have seen writing exercises for children teaching different ways of writing the letter M for example. When native speakers start school, are they taught how to write ABCs (starting point, the number of strokes, etc)? If there is a standardised way, could you please give me some suggestions? Writing ABCs can be a bit difficult for children whose language uses completely different scripts.

Thank you,

Nawee

Hi Nawee,

Try these sites:

http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/manuscript/alphabets/index.htm

http://www.meddybemps.com/letterary/guide_and_archives.html

The first has manuscript and cursive with printable sheets.

The second has a practice pad.

Hi Philo,

Thanks for your comments. I've been very busy lately and have not been able to contribute to this forum much. But, it seems that you (and others) have things well in hand. I also enjoy your posts. They're usually light, to the point and very palatable to the learner and reader (attributes not lost to those who read many threads).

I hope to continue to contribute on and off. I find myself always coming back to this forum because of the quality of the questions and responses. And yes, the fact that most respondents disagree is still apparent and quite reassuring. It's part of the charm. In fact, it's what partly contributes to the enigmatic "ratatouille" factor which lends an indescribable appeal to this forum. Anybody can answer questions. But those who do so with heart, sincerity and grace are hard to find.

Best wishes,
