Today walking along the street I saw something like road sign (blue square plate). There was a title "Block watched area criminals beware" on it.
I didn't catch on it exactly, but it sounded dangerous Shocked

As I understood, the meaning of the notice was as follows: Be careful! This area is not enough safety and it is under the police control. Confused
I didn't know if my interpretation was correct, but I was so scared as if the plate meant what I thought. Very Happy

So the question is, whether the foregoing interpretation is proper?
Is it a common practice to mark some suspicious territories with this sign?

Unless you are a criminal, you shouldn't worry. I think in this area, the citizens who live there have decided to pay more attenton to their neighborhood. They will check on what is happening in the street and around their neighbors' houses, instead of closing their doors and curtains and ignoring everything. If a criminal wants to steal things, for example, someone might see him and report him to the police. The sign is to keep criminals away.

Like most street signs, it is written in telegraphic form. It means:

"This area is protected by Block Watch [Neighborhood Watch]. Criminals beware!"

Thanks to both of you

Actually I didn't notice that this sign is all around. It's the first time, I've seen it within three month of my being in the U.S. Anyway, that is not the question. Perhaps I didn't pay attention.

As for me, the sign seems to caution criminals: "Criminal be careful! You will hardly manage to steal something in this area. Try to steal in the other one" Smile

In fact it is difficult to believe that the sign is able to keep criminals away. You know unfortunately neighbors aren't able to keep control under the area 24 hours a day.

In any case the psychological effect of the sign is great Smile Hope, not just on me, but on criminals too Smile
