Is it OK to say/write "The reason is that・・・� instead of "This is because・・・" or "・・・, because・・・�?
For example, "I don't want to see her today. The reason is that we quarreled yesterday." is acceptable?

Yes-- either 'the reason I don't want to see her is that...' or 'I don't want to see her because...'.
