It depends. You "put up a fight" when someone/something is opposing you. You are going through a lot of difficulties because of the "opposition."
So if the class was in demand by many, but there were limited seats, and if you had to push and shove to get in the front of a line waiting to enrol, then you put up a fight. (But these days, enrollment is usually by computer, so there is really no opportunity to put up a fight.)
You could put up a fight to be elected class president if you face competitive opponents. You could put up a fight to get well from a tough disease. |
