Guys, I just noticed that nobody even mentioned this topic. let's start it.
Investing in stock or funds can be really exciting. when it goes down, you get depressed; when it goes up, you get ecstatic...It can really put you in a complicated mood
But you have to evaluate your strenght and guts. you have to be strong when the stock goes down. and if you have a heart problem, you'd better stay away from it. because it will drive you nuts anytime, and that will cause a heart attack.
Today I am in a good mood. because my investment in funds made some money, and the money made in funds from yesterday to today, can afford a trip to Italy
Funds is better than stock, less risk. you don't have to spend plenty of time on it. A friend used to give me such advice: investing in funds, not in stock. I took the advice, and I have benefited from it. Although now he is not my friend anymore, I still have thanks to him. After all, money is lovable.
How about you guys? Trust me, you really should invest, that way you can have more trips. |

Yeah I agree that funds are better than stocks but generally I don't want to engage in things like it. Don't believe in RR, there are people who ruined themselves with stocks. _________________ If I say "I love you" to someone, then I also have to say "I also love everyone else inside you, I love the whole world because of you, I also love myself inside you." -- Erich Fromm, the Art of Love |

my mom and dad made a very big amount of money and due to miscalculation they lost all those money after a year.
I know what? I think it's a waste of time. _________________ If I say "I love you" to someone, then I also have to say "I also love everyone else inside you, I love the whole world because of you, I also love myself inside you." -- Erich Fromm, the Art of Love |

Thanks. I am flattered. But I just don't think there is any Italian guy waiting for me over there
In my mind, Italy, France, Britain, Austria, these cities stand for Romanic, Art, grace, decent culture, elegance, civilization...all nice qualities
And thanks to funds and that old friends, now I am approaching these qualities.
Sometimes friendship goes the hell away, but money still comes up. And that makes the world a lot better |

Today I lost some money in funds. so I guess, with all money I have made in fund, I can't visit Italy that far, now the money can only afford a trip to Korea, or Thailand, or Vietnam
I guess most members on this forum are students, and few students invest. as students, their parents pay their trips, clothes, food, everthing. that's nice. But I enjoy spending my own money. I remember, when I was a medical college student, in order to make extra allowance, I found a part-time job as a math tutor. Unfortunately, my student was soo stupid. he was a high school student. When I gave him lesson, he just had no idea what I was talking about. I tried many ways to teach him, it just didn't work. I felt awfully frustrated. and I told my boyfriend:"I must have some problem, and I am definitely not teacher material!" My boyfriend comforted me:" Don't worry, you will be a Doctor, not a teacher, so take easy." Later the student's mom told me:"Don't be so hard on yourself, just try your best, we won't blame you if he doesn't make any progress on math-learning. you know, the Doctor said my son was quarter-witted." Anyway, that part-time job brought me a bike, a pair of boots, a coat, and a lighter for my boyfriend Independence is always great-feeling. so is investment |

No no! Rose is correct. Investing in funds is generally a good idea.
Individual stocks can go up or down, so you can easily get burned on stocks. I've lost money on stocks too. But on average, overall, the stock market goes up up up. Money market funds invest in many various stocks, so if any one stock goes down, it doesn't hurt the fund so much. The fund responds to the overall market.
So, Rose, that is why your fund lost money. Over the past week, the stock market had a sudden small drop (about 2%). But already it is going back up (over 1% in the past couple days). You will be able to afford a trip to Italy soon again. But don't go now anyway! August is unbearably HOT and HUMID in southern Europe. Autumn will be better.
I am fortunate to work for a company that helps us create 401k retirement accounts where we can invest part of our salary in funds and save for when we are old and don't want to work (our government's payments to retired people are very small, enough to live but not enough to travel and enjoy life).

Bob, I am sure your retirement will be able to pay your trips , at least able to pay your trips to Asian. Because your retirement is much more than the average working income in many Asian countries like China. With your retirement, you can live a very cosy life in China, or in Vietname, or in Thailand...You even can rent a suit of nice apartment, hire someone to clean your clothes, cook for you.
Therefore, I think you should invest more than you have already done in 401k retirement accounts. that way after you retire, you will be able to travel around the world. and you can take your little girl and wife with you. Family trip, awesome |

About stocks...In Vietnam when the beginning about stocks, there had a lot of people got rich. You only buy stocks you will get benefit. At that moment i wish i had enough money to buy some stocks...But now when the stock market is gradually stable. Stocks don't depend on chance as the begging. Now you wanna take part in stock market, you must to knowledge about it. Seeing many people are richer, i wanna invest too. Of course when you participate in stocks that doesn't mean you will aways win. Someone ruined themself with stocks...
But before investment i have to research about stocks and having funds
I think i can travel to Southern Asia. Now i have never think i will go to Euro...I dont have enough money _________________ I'm smart, that's why i'm single...haha(^_^) |
