Hey teachers,
I have some questions from reading some tour borchures.
1
Victorian girls, *as a rite of passage*, were expected to attend finishing school.
Does that mean a ceremony that changes social status?
2. Enroll your * old-soul* daughter in this one of a kind activity.
Someone who loves retro stuff?
3.Your morning is *capped off* with a full coursed luncheon .....
started off or filled with?
4. A *prix fixe* luncheon
a meal with several courses that is offered by a restaurant at a set price
5. I don't *recall* coming to Germany as a child.
Is it interchangeable with remember?
6 I am not letting you drive my car *in view of* what you did to it last time.
Can I use *given* *seeing* interchangeably in the sentence?
They are the questions I have today. Thank you all for being there. |

1. A rite of passage is a metaphorical rite, not an actual ceremony. It is something that is typical for a child to experience as they mature to adulthood. It's something that brings them closer to adulthood. For Victorian girls, finishing school transformed their girlishness into a more polished, ladylike manner.
2. I think so.
3. It's the finishing pizazz - the last, wonderful thing planned for the morning.
4.Yes.
5. I think so. There seems to be a very slight change of meaning to me, but I can't explain it. Even if I'm right, the difference is too small to worry about in most cases.
6. Yes. (Good job!) |
