What is "lead a string" in the below?
"this word can still lead a string of other four-letter words."

It means that this word can still be the first in a series of four-letter words (curse words, since many naughty words are four letters long).
A string of pearls is a lot of pearls strung together in a series. A string of curse words would be a lot of them said one after the other.
