hey lil! no on ever helped! you asked for many, many examples, but let me see if this helps...

into ~ when cooking pasta, bring the water to a rolling boil, then place the pasta into the water and turn the heat down to low.
into ~ she went into the store to purchase a drink, then we can continue to drive to the park.
at ~ i saw you at the mall last night, but i did not know the person you were with.
at ~ while you are at the grocery store, could you please remember to get eggs?
on ~ i sat on the park bench for an hour waiting for the bus to arrive.
on ~ the keys are on the table.
on ~ i am on my way to the movies right now so i cannot talk on the phone.
in ~ the dog slept in the garage all day to stay out of the heat.
in ~ i went in the store to get a drink of water.
unto is not used in conversation, although it can be found in the King James version of the Bible.
i hope that helps a little. iitimone7 |

among ~ There is a rotten apple among the rest of the apples in the basket. (this is not a phrase that is commonly used, but you can see how the word works.)

Yes, iitimone7. I am just thankful to all the people who are great to help others like us. I never thought that there will be a forum for something like this. I just went searched this summer, and found this forum, I never thought about this before in my life. I just feel happy for people are great to help for our questions are important for us, and your (to All) help is soo kind.
Thanks a lot iitimone7, thanks for the examples. I now understand the sentences you gave me, but I still have doubt in myself if i really understand the meaning of "among." Is there any other word for "among"?
Thank You! |

among is used when you are talking about a group of something and bringing focus to one thing in the group.
a group of people - one person among us is a blonde
a basket of apples - one apple among the rest seems to be rotten
a school of fish - there is one leader among the school that leads the rest of the fish through the unknown ocean
does that help? the word is difficult to define, but some phrases that are similar are...
in the middle of
surrounded by
along with
between
amid
that's all i can come up with. iitimone7 |
