1.Students have to obey the given school rules.
2.Students have to obey the school rules which are given.
Are these sentences acceptable?
If I add "by teachers" to the second sentence, will it be better?
And is "the" necessary in both sentences?
Thank you in advance!

I would omit "given" in the first sentence as unnecessary. It sounds better without "given" and isn't needed in either sentence.
In the second, if you want to emphasize that the rules were given, maybe rewrite it as, "The students have to obey the rules that the school teachers give / that have been given by the school." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
