Hello Teacher - What language is it? Do you have a source/reference?
Can you provide a context? Philo |

Hi, Philo.
Thank you for your reply.
I'm sorry but I can't know which language it is, too.
It's my guess that it could be a German word, because it is in a letter(written in English) of German company.
The other words included in the same sentence are wine, whisky, and so on, if that helps.
So I guess it could be a kind of German liquor.
I am also not well versed in liquor, I have no idea what is "shch".
Would you have some idea?
Thank you.
With regards. |

I'm pretty sure it's not German, since German does not put umlauts over the letter y, and there is nothing for shych in the Leo German online dictionary, http://dict.leo.org . Try looking it up on Google.
Good luck. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

On second thoughts:
Was the letter handwritten? If so, maybe you are misreading the word. Can you cut and paste part of it for us curious ones?
Thanks. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Hi, CP.
Thank you for your right advice.
I didn't know that umlauts don't put over the letter y in German.
The letter is not handwritten but printed.
The part in question is
"for example:
> 250 European cheeses
.....
> wide variety of beers
> More than 200 kinds of shch".
It isn't a German word, it means that I have gotten off the trial.
I really appreciate your helpful advice.
Thank you so much.
Sincerely. |

I'd say it's one of the Scandinavian languages, but I have no idea what it means. |
