Hello,

'When I entered the house, the phone rang.'

If I use 'on' instead of 'when' here, which sentence is correct below?

1.'On my entering the house, the phone rang.'

2.'On entering the house, the phone rang.'

If the both are not correct, would you please correct them?

Thank you very much.

Hello Learner -

Your examples #1 & #2 sound correct. #2 sounds a little better than #1.

'When I .....'... sounds more commom in contemporary usage.

Do you think this example is acceptable - 'As I entered the house, the phone rang.'? Philo

Hello Philo,

"Do you think this example is acceptable - 'As I entered the house, the phone rang.'?"

Thank you very much for your kind help.
As for the above example, I don't think it has the same meaning as the examples I gave. I think it should be 'As I entered the house, the phone was ringing.' What do you think?

Thank you very much
