A part "that means we will be able to sleep tonight" is odd in position, isn't it?
“They find themselves having to ask themselves ‘What can we possibly do that means we will be able to sleep tonight, knowing that we have done everything today that we could have done?’.” _________________ Hiromichi |

That phrase is not in an odd position, but it is oddly worded.
They have to ask themselves, 'What can we possibly do that will allow us to sleep tonight knowing that we have done everything today that we could have done?' |

2006, Thank you. For confirmation of my understanding, I like to ask: Can I change " What can we do .... " to " What else can we do.... " ? Namely addition of "else." _________________ Hiromichi |

You are welcome, hiromichi.
If you have already done something, you can add "else". If you haven't done anything yet, you cannot add "else". |
